Bachelor of Commerce, which is popularly known by its abbreviation B.Com, is an undergraduate course that is completed over a duration of three years. BCom or Bachelor of Commerce is a three-year undergraduate course. BCom is the second most popular undergraduate course in the Commerce branch. In the BCom course, candidates are taught core subjects related to commerce and finance. In the three-year duration, the candidates are given options to choose from a few elective subjects too. The programme is usually spread over six semesters during which the student is taught topics like financial accounting, corporate tax, economics, company law, auditing, business management, etc.
BCom is the best option for students who want to make a career in commerce, accounting, finance, banking and insurance.
Candidates who want to pursue a B.Com. course need to have interest in the subjects that they choose to pursue in the course. Students who have successfully passed their higher secondary examinations (10+2) from a recognised education board with commerce. The candidate must meet the minimum cut-off criteria for admission
B.Com. degree course applications are available either online from the University website or offline by visiting the Admissions Office of the university. The subjects taught in a B.Com. course varies on the basis of the discipline selected by the student. Candidates can view the subjects that they would need to study as part of their B.Com course.
Bachelor of Commerce [BCom] provides a broad scope of employment options and job scope for graduates as a large number of BCom graduates choose to pursue self-employment or land lucrative salary packages in prestigious companies. The graduates of Bachelor of Commerce enjoy a very high employment rate with exciting salary packages.
All companies registered under the Companies Act, are mandatorily required to get their accounts audited only by practicing Chartered Accountants. As a result, Chartered Accountants (CA) are invaluable to an organization. A qualified Chartered Accountant can also choose to join Government Service, Public Sector Undertakings, or opt for lucrative projects in the private sector.
In todays job market, only a BCom degree is not enough. After completing the degree, students must pursue post-graduation in Commerce, Accounting and Finance. Courses like MCom, MBA, CA, CS etc. are a good options for B Com graduates. BCom graduates can also prepare for competitive exams for appointment in Government sector.
But those who wish to start working immediately after completing the BCom course, can find various jobs at junior level in accounting, commerce, banking and finance and related fields. They can also seek jobs in public sector undertakings. After completing BCom, students can also pursue career in management, teaching, advertising, law, journalism, mass communication etc.
