Masters of Social Welfare (M.S.W.) is a two-year postgraduate program which is related to the study of essential humanitarian efforts in a society. The primary focus of the course is on the marginalized and weaker sections of the society who are often suppressed and neglected.
The course imparts students knowledge and training related to the upliftment of the marginalized in areas such as education, sanitation, and their welfare. MSW program mainly consists of Foundation Courses, Core Courses and Disciplinary Courses taught in a period of four semesters.
The program offers specialisation in the four main areas such as Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Family and Child Welfare, Psychiatric Social Work and Community Development. Social workers work with one agenda in the society; that is to bring a change!

The question "What is MSW course?" can be easily answered as "MSW course is a Masters course in social work and its various applications to bring about a change in the lives of the deprived". The duration of the MSW course is two years and other MSW course details includes MSW curriculum focusses on the logic and concept of Social Work and its acknowledged impact on the various genesis of humans and animals.
The course is tailor-made for those who aim to hold a clinical, supervisory, or program director role in NGOs and NPOs. An MSW is currently considered the terminal degree in the field of social work, in spite of the availability of higher degrees.
Candidates should have successfully completed their Bachelor's degree of a minimum 3 or 4 years duration (10+2+3 or 10+2+4). The Bachelor's degree should be from a university that is recognized by the UGC (University Grants Commission) of India. A minimum of 50% or its equivalent must be secured by the students at graduation level. Students who are in their final year of their Bachelor's degree are also eligible to apply.
Candidates who have a Bachelor's degree in Humanities/Social Science/Science/Commerce or Management subjects are also eligible. Students with a background in social work, psychology, social science, sociology or any other related fields are given preference over others.
Social work is one of the professions which is unique on its own, wherein the aspirants apart from the pen-paper test can actually test their skill-sets and principles in a practical and creative nature. Post-graduation, aspirants of this course can opt to work with some of the renowned and active NGO's or welfare work associations which are authorized by UNESCO and UNICEF across the globe.
Those who complete this degree may work in the medical, mental health, and educational fields, providing support as therapists, healthcare social workers, school social workers, and as clinical social workers.
After completing MSW course, you get employment in either the government sector, or in some NGO. These two sectors are the main employment sectors after this course.
In government sectors, you can get a job in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on a permanent basis or on a contract basis in job roles such as Coordinator, Program Manager, Fieldwork, etc.
In NGOs, you can work closely on different issues faced by the disadvantaged people and ensure basic health and social awareness among those people.
